One-drum dryer | Two-drum dryer | Vacuum two-drum dryer

Meier Systemtechnik GmbH has extensive expertise in the design, development and manufacture of a wide range of roller dryers of various designs for a wide variety of applications. Roller dryers are used continuously to efficiently dry solutions, suspensions and pastes with different consistencies and viscosities. Their areas of application are extremely versatile. From foodstuffs such as fruit juice concentrates to chemical products such as phosphates and pigments to active pharmaceutical ingredients, roller dryers are used wherever it is necessary to preserve specific product properties through short drying times.

In the case of two-roll dryers, including vacuum dryers, the material to be dried is applied in a thin and uniform layer thickness to rotating heated hollow rolls with the aid of special devices. During a partial rotation of the rollers, the moisture contained evaporates. The dried product is then removed with the help of doctor blades. The consistency of the final product varies depending on the nature of the processed material and can be in the form of film, flakes or powder. It can be transported to the next processing stage via appropriate conveyor systems. Compared to many other drying processes, this form of drying is characterised by extremely short retention times, which means that components such as vitamins and minerals are better preserved. With vacuum drying, this effect is intensified because the drying temperature can be effectively lowered. The constant temperature in the rollers, regardless of the type of heating medium, contributes to consistent product quality.

Meier Systemtechnik Merto-Drum roller dryers can be operated under normal pressure as well as under vacuum conditions. Thanks to its many years of experience in the field of special plant manufacturing, Meier Systemtechnik GmbH is able to realise roller dryers in almost any desired size and according to the individual requirements of its customers, in addition to the Merto-Drum series.

Industries

Advantages of the MertoDrum series – Our advanced two-drum dryers:

In contrast to spray and fluidised bed dryers, our roller dryers offer significant advantages for the drying process:

  • Significantly lower energy consumption
  • Reduced space requirement
  • Adaptable heating media such as hot water, steam or thermal oil, depending on customer requirements
  • Effective drying of sticky and low viscosity products without prior pre-treatment
  • Low maintenance

Vacuum drum drying in particular offers significant advantages for many products. Vacuum drum dryers enable gentler drying compared to conventional drum dryers under atmospheric pressure. They are particularly suitable for products where high temperatures are to be avoided.

The following advantages result from vacuum drying:

  • Gentle drying to reduce thermal stress by lowering the boiling point (e.g. water – boiling point at normal pressure: 100 °C, vacuum drying at 50 mbar absolute pressure: boiling point at 32 °C)
  • Considerable reduction of drying time
  • Independent of ambient air, as there is a closed system, so there is no exhaust air as with atmospheric roller dryers
  • Problem-free drying of products susceptible to oxidation due to the closed system and the possibility of inertisation
  • Drying of toxic substances without difficulties due to the closed system Drying of explosive substances possible, option for ATEX design
  • Excellent for thermal treatments below the melting point (e.g. sulphur)
  • Solvent recovery possible
  • Drying from 10 mbar absolute pressure up to normal pressure (1013 mbar absolute pressure)
  • Reduction of drying time

Sector-specific applications:

The (vacuum) two-drum dryers of the Merto-Drum series have proven themselves many times over in various industries and application areas. For many years, our customers have successfully relied on standard solutions as well as individually adapted solutions for their specific requirements.
